... Temple should have its 2017 recruiting class wrapped up.
Unless something unforeseen happens, it sounds like Dre Perry will commit Friday and Justyn Hamilton will commit next week.
Considering it looked like Temple might be facing an uphill battle with Dwayne Killings leaving for UConn on the first day of the July open period, Fran Dunphy and his staff did a good job of assembling what looks like a pretty solid class.
Perry can really play. He's athletic, can handle the ball, gets to the rim. He really played hard and with a lot of energy when I saw him in July at Philly U.
Earlier that day, I only got to see about the last 5-10 minutes of Nate Pierre Louis' game, and I don't think he got a shot attempt during that time, but he wound up having a great summer, and he'll play against some consistently good competition in North Jersey as a senior.
I haven't had a chance to see J.P. Moorman live. One observer (I think I posted this before) called him a more athletic version of Scootie Randall. Shortly after Moorman committed, I got a text from Jacey Zembal, the editor of the NC State Rivals site. He said he really likes Moorman, referred to him as a "major steal" for Temple.
Moorman, I'm told, helped out a lot with getting a (soon-to-be announced) commitment from Hamilton. When Kyle and I talked to Eric Bossi about his evaluation, Eric told us that Hamilton was at one point in the Rivals150 for his class. He's a legit 6-10, and those I've talked to about him say the same thing: great athlete, defense ahead of his offense, has a chance to be very good down the line. I know that reads like the descriptor for a lot of promising bigs, but people whose opinions I respect generally seem to be pretty high on him.
And although these things tend to be a true collaborative effort, Aaron McKie was the lead recruiter on Pierre-Louis and Hamilton and took over with Perry once Killings left. Chris Clark, who's in North Carolina with Dunphy for Moorman's in-home visit, took the lead there.
