American Athletic Conference Commissioner Mike Aresco brought up Temple when asked about UCF’s 23-game win streak, including a Knights victory over the Owls in Orlando on Nov. 1, in a Monday conference call with reporters.
“When you win these big games, people didn’t really talk about the quality of the Temple win (at UCF on Nov. 1),” Aresco said. “I don’t want to digress too much, but the point is Temple was a really good football team. After the first two games, when Anthony Russo came in, that sparked that team and they almost beat (Boston College) up there, when BC was playing well. They beat Maryland by three touchdowns – it was 35-14 – down there at Maryland. That’s a Maryland team that almost beat, came within a two-point conversion of beating Ohio State.”
When asked about the possibility of Power Five conferences poaching some of The American's top programs, Aresco replied, "With respect to realignment, whatever happens, happens. You don't really worry about it."
