For those wondering why walk-on Will Mobley took over kicking duties, it sounds like it wasn't a result of Aaron Boumerhi's missed field goal attempt.

Collins said that Boumerhi had been dealing with a hip injury through the summer and was trying to play through it. On the opening kickoff, which Collins stated was not supposed to be an onsides kick attempt but sure looked like it live, Boumerhi apparently felt a "pop." Boumerhi stayed in to attempt the 40-yard field goal a few drives later but had nothing resembling his usual leg strength on the attempt.

I get the sense that you won't see Boumerhi for a little bit and that Mobley could be handling the kicking duties for the immediate future. In the event that Boumerhi's injury lingers long enough that they need to shut him down, he does still have his redshirt year to use.

As for Mobley, the redshirt freshman came in and hit his three extra point attempts and looked OK on kickoff attempts. He never attempted a field goal but when I asked Mobley after the game what his range was, he said he felt good from 50 yards and in.
