New assistant search

I've heard a few random names. The most intriguing thing I've heard is that they "really want" Lynn Greer, but Lynn doesn't want to take the job now because he's just settled into the retired life. I don't think this would be out of the question down the line (and wouldn't hurt with recruiting his son). He's still in the area and on campus from time to time, as he owns a few rental properties around campus.

2019 offer

As @MattVender put out on twitter, Temple extended an offer to 2019 Philly Pride guard Hakim Hart. Dunphy was the only head coach to watch the loaded 15U Philly Pride squad yesterday as they took on Maryland Elite at the Elevate Hoops event.

He also watched Clifton Moore play twice.

I wouldn't be surprised if more offers went out yesterday after the 15U game.

2019.....

My understanding is that Fran's contract expires in 2018.

There is a thread on this board about 2019. At what point do advisors and competitions start to tell kids that Fran won't be here if they sign with us?

There is no succession plan or coach in waiting that has been announced. I though that would be Aaron, but considering he hasn't been the boon to recruiting we were all hoping for, maybe they are taking a wait and see approach.

2018 is here before we know it. I would think a contingency has to be in place.

Possible 2016 addition

I'm told that Temple will host JUCO shooting guard Isaiah Lewis for an official visit in "early August."

Lewis, who played at Casper College in Wyoming last season, is a Bronx native and formerly played with the Nike-backed NJ Playaz, who also produced former Temple point guard and current graduate assistant Luis Guzman. He'll have two years of eligibility remaining and called Temple his "favorite" when we talked briefly earlier this month.

QB commit sets visit

2017 quarterback commit Todd Centeio will visit Temple unofficially on Friday and Saturday.

Centeio, a former Miami verbal that held offers from the likes of Indiana, Nebraska and NC State, will trip to Philadelphia for the first time this weekend.

Despite the fact that Matt Rhule is holding his fifth and final camp of the summer, Centeio isn't planning on participating in drills.

"I'll bring my cleats just in case," he told OwlScoop.com.

Meanwhile, 2017 running back commit Justin Brown is also planning to attend and participate in Saturday's camp. Brown chose the Owls over Navy, Buffalo and Army in May.

Tyrek Coger?

He had been a Temple target a few times, and was committed to 3 different schools (Mizzou, MTSU, and Ole Miss). The SEC did not accept his JUCO transfer for whatever reason. Averaged 12 points and 7 rebounds per game at Cape Fear CC in NC. Nearly 53% from the field and 66% from the FTL. Averaged around 1 assist and 1 block per game. Averaged just over 1 TO per game. 6'8 245. 2 years of eligibility remaining.

Malcolm Bernard

Florida A&M grad transfer Malcolm Bernard arrived at Temple for his visit on Thursday at around 3:30 p.m. He'll be on campus until Friday and then plans to hit Xavier from Friday-Sunday.

Bernard, a 6-foot-5, 195-pounder that can play the two or three, averaged 14.4 ppg, 7.1 rpg and 4.3 apg as a junior at Florida A&M. He'd certainly make a Trey Lowe and/or Josh Brown absence a bit easier to swallow, while also taking some of the pressure off Shawn Alston and Quinton Rose.

Homecoming game

A post in another thread included a link to the schedule on OwlSports.com, so I clicked on it and noticed that the Charlotte game is designated as homecoming. Why THAT game? It's non-conference, and the opponent is one with which we have no historical tradition. (For that matter, the opponent has no historical tradition or identity.) The only possible rationale I can come up with is that that's the game that most needs the attendance boost because the opponent is too unattractive on its own to draw much of a crowd..
