Good ones on Rutgers and Tennessee. But my favorite is:

Why do Tennessee fans wear orange? So they can dress that way for the game on Saturday, go hunting on Sunday, and pick up trash on Monday.

What does the average Alabama player get on his SATs? Drool.

How many Michigan State freshmen football players does it take to change a light bulb? None. That's a sophomore course.

University of Michigan Coach Jim Harbaugh is only going to dress half of his players for the game this week; the other half will have to dress themselves.

How is the Kansas football team like an opossum? They play dead at home and get killed on the road.

Why did the Tennessee linebacker steal a police car? He saw "911" on the side and thought it was a Porsche.

How do you get a former Illinois football player off your porch? Pay him for the pizza.

8/12 Training Camp

Training camp was open to reporters for the final 20 minutes of practice on Friday and Matt Rhule, Francis Brown, Derrek Thomas, Artrel Foster and others were made available to the media.

A couple takeaways from practice:

True freshman cornerback Linwood Crump went down with a high ankle sprain and was wearing a boot on his left foot. He was in uniform but did not practice on Friday. He'll be back "soon," according to Brown.

During the 20-minute portion of practice that was open to reporters, redshirt sophomore wide receiver Marshall Ellick stood out and grabbed two touchdown catches - one from Phillip Walker and another from Logan Marchi. Ellick is still a walk-on, but was running with a combination of the one’s and two’s. True freshman quarterback Anthony Russo, who was working with the fourth teamers, connected on two big plays - one to Travon Williams and another to Willie Smith III. Jahad Thomas also broke out for a couple of big runs, including a 35-yard touchdown.

Brown and Matt Rhule both said that Artrel Foster has been the best cornerback on the team through the early parts of camp. They also seem really high on Nate Hairston. Those two seem to be the early favorites to play both boundary corner spots.

2018-20 schedule opportunities

Our OOC schedules are set for this season and next, but how about for the following three years (2018-2020)?

2018 we play at Maryland and home to Buffalo and Villanova.

2019 we host Maryland and Army and go to Buffalo.

2020 at Rutgers and host Idaho

I think we need a P5 school to fill in these open dates and beyond. If especially like to see it be the ACC. Syracuse has openings for each of these years. They are an old rival that is still within our reach to be able to defeat. It has a large alumni base that will help to draw to the Linc in our last full-time season(I think we don't have Tastykake Stadium open until 2019).

Boston College is another possibility for all of those years. Many of the other ACC schools are completely scheduled for OOC games.

Punt, kick, return: Who has the best special teams in college football?

Temple comes in at #7.

7. Temple Owls
i

The Owls were No. 11 in my special-teams rankings in 2015. P Alex Starzyk averaged 42.4 per punt and improved his net from 35.6 in 2014 to 37.2 in 2015. K Austin Jones hit 23 of 28 field goals but with a long of just 41 yards. Temple's top two kick returners combined to average 25.3 yards per return, and top punt return man Sean Chandler tallied 12.1 per chance. Everyone is back.

Johncarlo Valentin

Former Temple target and Oklahoma signee Johncarlo Valentin has enrolled at Lackawanna College (PA), according to a source.

Valentin, a product of Philadelphia's Imhotep Charter School, was ranked by Rivals as a four-star recruit and the No. 20 offense guard in the country. He held offers from Arizona State, Auburn, Michigan, Miami (Fla.), among others.

Center Phila. prospering

Story in WSJ regarding the movement of "Millenials" into and growing affluence of center city Philadelphia.

This economic flow doubtless relates to Temple's fortunes in general, and specifically the stadium project under discussion in NB's thread.. It seems the growth and development of Temple would be enhanced by the growth and development of the Broad Street corridor from center city up to and past Temple.

Penn State win was a "Gaffe"

Campus Insiders writer Pete Fiutak Ranked Penn State 21 and had this to say about Temples win last year.

Fiutak wrote:

A 9-3 record. There won't be a gaffe against Temple again, and the schedule is just light enough with home games against Minnesota and Maryland – and road trips to Purdue, Rutgers and Indiana – to expect more than seven wins. Traveling to Michigan is rough, but Ohio State and Michigan State have to come to Happy Valley. Split those two, and the Franklin era gets its kickstart.

Saturday training camp

Temple training camp got underway on Saturday and the Owls hosted three recruits:

2017 Neumann-Goretti (Pa.) WR/DE Emil Moody, who picked up an offer from Temple following last week's Matt Rhule camp. He's a candidate to commit in the coming days.

2017 Virginia dual-threat QB Darriel Mack Jr.

2017 Cherry Hill West (NJ) CB Harrison Hand, who holds offers from Maryland, Virginia Tech, Rutgers, among others.
