Mailbag questions for this week’s pod

Good afternoon, everyone!

We’re taking mailbag questions for this week’s episode of The Scoop until Wednesday at 11 a.m.

We’ll obviously have a lot to talk about with the additions of Jamal Mashburn Jr., Lynn Greer III and Jameel Brown with more to come, so feel free to drop in your questions here, along with anything else you’d like to put on the agenda.

Thanks as always for listening!

GETTING TO KNOW JAMAL MASBURN JR.

Wow, John! Just listened to your full length interview with Jamal Mashburn Jr.. There was a level of maturity and focus in that young man that I have not heard from a Temple player in a very long time and that bodes well for this team and the coaching staff. It's a lot more than 'he got game'! His overall outlook on balancing basketball and life especially how you and he talked about his Dad in the conversation- the man, the Dad, the leader- and his faith speaks volumes way beyond basketball. And your questions were so on point that there was a mutual dialog and such great comfort and respect, it was a joy to listen to as the comments that flowed with such natural ease. John, this interview was most certainly one of my top 10 Owlscoop interviews you've done since I've been on this board. Thank you and GO OWLS MAN!

Lynn Greer III returns to his "second home" at Temple

You can listen to the first part of our interview here. OwlScoop subscribers will have access to the full conversation later this week.

Recruiting update

We told you all previously that with their two remaining scholarships, Adam Fisher and his staff would likely pursue a big and a point guard with one year of eligibility remaining.

Today, Temple is hosting former Syracuse and Rhode Island point guard Jalen Carey on an official visit. The 6-foot-3, 185-pound Harlem native was a 4-star recruit and the No. 53 player in the 2018 class before signing with Syracuse. He averaged a career-best 9.9 points and 4.9 rebounds this past season at Rhode Island. He scored in double figures 11 times, including a season-high 21 against George Mason.

A source familiar with his recruitment told us there could be some hoops to jump through in getting Carey a waiver to play this season.

Carey averaged 3.5 points as a true freshman at Syracuse during the 2018-19 season and scored 26 points against UConn in just his third college game. A thumb injury limited him to just two games the following season as a sophomore.

Jamal Mashburn Jr. interview

I talked to Mashburn earlier today. You'll hear about 7 minutes of our conversation in the podcast tomorrow morning, and all of you as subscribers will get the full interview on the site. We talked for about 30 minutes.

Some notable things to pass along:

He called picking Temple a "no-brainer." "Temple was right on the money from day one," he said.

Arkansas and Kentucky both reached out.

Michael Huger, who played in New York City with Mashburn's father, also helped in the recruitment process here.

We'll have more soon.
